Procedures for GED Applicants

(For 16 and 17 year old students)

NOTE:  Students age 18 and above do not follow this procedure.


A "Petition for Release" form is required for each student.  The Charlotte Mecklenburg School's "Petition for Release" form is divided into 5 sections, which represents the order the application is to be processed.

Section A---

            ►Student requests the form from the last school attended and fills out the

                information.

 Section B---

            ►Parent fills out this portion of the form and has a notary sign and seal the

               form.

Section C---

            ►The principal signs this portion of the form.

            ►The school should attach a copy of the attendance screen and the official

                withdrawal date indicated - if - the student has withdrawn.

Section D---

            ► Must be signed by Mr. Kenny Clontz after the Parent and Student attends a

                 briefing concerning the GED program requirements.

Section E---

            ►The student brings the completed form (sections A-D) and any attached

               documentation to Ms. Karen Thomas, of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School

               System, Walton Plaza, 700 E. Stonewall St., Suite 708.  Her number is 

               980-343-2636.              

 

            ►Upon verification that the process is in order and completed with signatures,

                Ms. Thomas' office will sign and date the release form.

 

            ►Student must return to Mr. Kenny Clontz 's office for final processing.

 

 ALL  students must be officially withdrawn from school for six consecutive months. 

 

Charlotte/Mecklenburg students must obtain the aforementioned form from the last school attended. 

 

Students outside of Mecklenburg County must obtain official documentation from the last school attended and Parents must sign a CPCC Release form. 

 

Parents of Home Schooled students must present the official Home School Certification card and sign a CPCC Release form. 

 

All students and Parents must present proper ID's issued by DMV.  Guardians must show notarized proof they are authorized to sign in the student's behalf.

 

All students and their parent(s) or legal guardian must attend a briefing held on each Thursday at 2:00 pm.  Please call ahead (704-330-6732) to confirm this briefing seating, location and time.
