DATATEL
The company that is the owner, author, developer, and provider of
Colleague and
WebAdvisor software for CPCC and the NCCCS. Read more

DEAN'S LIST
A list prepared each semester to honor students for outstanding academic
achievement. Students must be in a curriculum program, have completed
at least 12 hours of credit in courses numbered 100-299, and have achieved a
grade point average of 3.50 or higher with no incompletes or withdrawals.
DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM (see management information system)
DEPARTMENT NUMBER
This is a 4-digit responsibility code, which indicates a particular group of
courses established under an account manager.
DEVELOPMENTAL STUDIES
Pre-college
courses (identified with a beginning 0 digit) that prepare students for
college-level courses. Formerly called Advancement Studies.
DIPLOMA
A document issued to a student signifying completion of a one-year
college curriculum program; also a document signifying completion of the
Adult High School Diploma program.
A program comprised of 36-48 semester hours, including a minimum of six
hours general education, which provide entry-level employment training.
DISHER BUILDING
One of four buildings in the administration complex on E. Fourth Street.
Address is 1300 E. Fourth Street. Named for William Disher, former chairman
of the CPCC Board of Trustees.
DISCIPLINE CHAIR
A faculty member who is given some released time to help the division with
administrative work for a particular academic discipline. Discipline
chairs are appointed annually.
DISTANCE LEARNING
An umbrella term that includes all the ways the College offers courses for
students at a distance including telecourses, television, and Internet.
Organized instruction delivery by means other than face-to-face classroom
contact. See eLearning.
DOWNLOAD
To copy a file from another computer to your computer.
DROP/ADD
A period during registration when students may change their class
schedules without penalty. See Schedule Adjustment.
