MAJORS BOOKSTORE
The Central Campus college bookstore operated by Follet Higher Education
Group. Housed in the Professional Development Building at the corner of
Independence Blvd. and Elizabeth Ave. Named for Powell Majors, former
executive director of the CPCC Foundation.
MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM
An information system that integrates data from all the departments it serves
and provides operations and management with the information they require. As
it pertains to CPCC, the information system is called Colleague by Datatel.
The NCCCS is phasing in the use of Colleague at all community colleges. See
MIS and Decision Support System.
MASTER COURSE FILE
This is a course file kept accessed through the mainframe computer that lists
all pertinent information about a course - long title, short title, prefix,
number, cost, contact hours, credit hours, lab hours, etc.
MEASUREMENT
The process used to assign numerals to objects or constructs according to rules so that the numbers have quantitative meaning.
MECKLENBURG HALL
Original name for the Van Every Building on Central Campus. Completed in
1968; renamed in 1985.
MEDIA PLAYER
Many eLearning courses
and online offerings will make use of some multimedia including audio and
video. It is common to find a variety of media types including mp3, wav,
mpg, mov, wma, wmv, etc. Specifically, MediaPlayer is the preferred
application for playing Microsoft's format of audio (wma) and video (wmv).
These formats are quite commonly used by the college.
Microsoft's MediaPlayer
will also provide options to play and manage most standard audio and video
formats.
MEMBERSHIP HOURS
The number of students in a class multiplied by the number of contact hours
of the class equal membership hours. Membership hours are used to
calculate FTE's in most curriculum classes. The other way to calculate
FTE's is by contact hours.
MENU
A list of files or options, along with a way for you to select an item on the
list.
MFP
An MFP (multi-function
product or printer) makes copies like an old copier but also does more. You
can print to it from your computer. It staples in-line. You can take a
document, scan it, and email it to yourself or someone else. And, if
appropriately set up, it can send and receive faxes. Requires operator PIN.

MIDDLE COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOLS
Small, autonomous schools where students take both high school and
college credit courses but are not guaranteed an associate degree or two
years of transferable credit.

MULTI-FUNCTION PRODUCT OR PRINTER

MYCPCC
The name for the CPCC
student portal, a computer program that enables students to view data
unique to them and use online services. Requires single
network access pass (SNAP) login assigned to the individual.
