VA
The Office of Veteran Affairs oversees the enrollment of persons eligible for education assistance benefits from the U. S. Department of Veteran Affairs.  The College provides training opportunities for veterans, eligible dependents of service-connected or deceased veterans or 100% service-connected disabled veterans, those missing in action, and prisoners of war.

VAN EVERY BUILDING
The Van Every Building on Central Campus opened in 1968 and was originally called Mecklenburg Hall. It was the first building to be completed in the original master plan. In 1985 it was renamed to honor Philip Van Every, a benefactor of the College.

A form used in CCE to document registered students' signatures.

VIRTUAL CAMPUS
Virtual Campus is the former name of the Distance Learning instructional group responsible for distance education including telecourses, television, and Internet classes. Formerly College Without Walls.

VIRTUAL LEARNING COMMUNITY
A consortium of every college in the N. C. Community College System.  Though collaboration, the VLC develops online courses, provides training, enhances online student services, and facilitates communication about online learning across colleges.  The goal is to provide easy access and quality distance education learning instruction for students in a cost-effective manner through the sharing of resources.

VISIO
Diagrams and flowcharts are commonly produced with Microsoft's Visio charting application. These are not frequently presented online, but may be found in some courses and areas of CPCC's websites. A free "viewer" plug-in that allows users to view Visio charts without having the software installed on their system is available through the downloads area of the Microsoft website.

VIRUS
A program that destroys data or software by reproducing copies of itself or by producing meaningless text.  Viruses can be transmitted by computer networks or by computer disks that are infected with such a program.
