previous                up

I. Scope

This procedure includes curriculum and course changes as well as the development of new courses or curricula.

II. Process

The process begins when an individual or division within the College recognizes a need for a new curriculum or course or a curriculum or course change and work is begun with the appropriate administrative unit to prepare a proposal.

III. Procedure

The specific procedure depends on the nature of the proposal–a new course, revision to an existing course, a new program or revision to an existing program of study.  All procedures, however, require the preparation of a proposal and teamwork among the various levels of organizational structure. The procedural steps are outlined in the Instructional Resource Handbook.

IV. Implementation

A. Depending on the nature of the proposal, either the Vice President for Learning or the State Board of Community Colleges will authorize implementation.

B. The Vice President for Learning directs the preparation of curriculum updates to alert division directors, the Financial Aid/VA Office, counselors, and advisors of new courses and course changes, new curricula, and curricular changes.

C. When the proposal involves a new curriculum or a curriculum change, the appropriate dean manages the details of implementation. Management may entail informing division directors of all curriculum changes.

D. When the proposal involves new courses or course changes, the division director is required to prepare course origination documents.
