How to Get Textbook Desk Copies
Definition | Option 1 | Option 2 | Paying for copies | Reimbursement | Procedure | Getting help
Definition
A desk copy is the instructor's copy of an adopted text. Unsolicited sample textbooks received by faculty members as sales promotions are not desk copies.
Option 1
The Bookstore encourages all divisions to write to the publishers for desk copies, keeping in mind the publishers' preferences.
"Publishers feel that the granting of desk copies is a privilege extended by the publisher, rather than a right of the instructor to such a copy, so publishers would prefer to keep control in their own hands. Publishers definitely prefer that instructors write directly for their own desk copies."
General policy statement of American Assoc. of Publishers.
Option 2
The Bookstore will furnish desk copies when requested by a division head using Form BKS F13, available at the Bookstore.
Paying for copies
Desk Copies picked up at the Bookstore will be charged to the division.
Reimbursement
Desk copies picked up from the Bookstore should be returned in good condition for credit when the publisher sends requested desk copies. A reimbursement to the division will be made when saleable replacement copies are returned to the Bookstore for credit. It is the Division Head's responsibility to write or call the publisher for replacement copies.

Follow these procedure for getting desk copies from the Bookstore:
