CPCC Theatre is proud to present this stirring dramatization of the life story of Helen Keller. The Miracle Worker is one of the most successful and warmly admired plays of the modern stage. Blind and mute, Helen would have had a very different fate had she not come under the tutelage of Annie Sullivan, an Irish girl who had been born blind. Little Helen, trapped in her secret world, is bitter, violent, spoiled and almost animal like. Only Annie realizes that there is a mind waiting to be rescued from that dark, tortured silence. Annie's success with Helen comes only after some of the most turbulent, violent, and emotion packed scenes ever presented on the stage. Join CPCC Theatre for an evening the NY Daily Mirror called “magnificent theatre.”
Tickets are on sale by mail at CPCC Box Office, P.O. Box 35009, Charlotte, NC 28235, at the box office window from 10:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, by phone at 704-330-6534 or online at www.carolinatix.org 24/7.

SouthPark Lions Club is very involved with CPCC. Each year, the club’s Vision Van visits the six campuses for free vision screening. The club supports a scholarship through the CPCC Foundation. One current and three retired members are active in the club. The club motto is “We Serve.”
The club is hosting a special performance of The Miracle Worker on Thursday, April 24, in Pease Auditorium. Tickets are $15, of which $10 is the nominal value and $5 supports Lions charitable activities.
The Miracle Worker is the story of Helen Keller (1880-1968) and her teacher, Ann Sullivan. In 1925 Keller addressed the Lions International convention and challenged Lions to become “knights to the blind in the crusade against darkness.” This is why Lions Clubs are active in vision preserving programs for diabetics, Camp Dogwood on Lake Norman for the visually impaired, Lions Services with its manufacturing workshop and eye clinic on North Tryon Street, and the vision van screening.
Please support these worthy projects that benefit the college, the community, and the visually impaired. Contact Phil Adams at 6478 or 339 CH for tickets.

The Harris Campus administration recently learned that the shooting victim at the State Employees’ Credit Union last Tuesday is a Harris Campus student, Elana Williams. We are saddened by this news; however, we are encouraged to report that Elana is doing much better and recovering well in the hospital.
CPCC has inquired about how we might be able to assist Elana and her three young children during this difficult time. The SECU has established a fund to assist the family. Checks can be made out to Elana Williams and will be accepted at any SECU branch. Checks can also be taken to any CPCC cashiering office at our six campuses, and they will deliver the checks to the local SECU branch.
In addition, clothing donations are being accepted at any SECU branch. Below is a listing of the needed clothing articles.
