According to Chris Jules with the Charlotte DOT, a number of key Elizabeth Avenue construction activities are taking place during the next month.
All Central Campus visitors are urged to use caution when walking near the Elizabeth Avenue construction areas. Please pay careful attention to directional signage and maps along sidewalks near the construction site. Every effort will be made to maintain access to all buildings as conveniently as possible; however, there may be times when pedestrian traffic will need to be rerouted or restricted in order to complete the construction and to ensure the safety of CPCC students and staff.
As construction progresses, expect frequent rerouting of pedestrian walking paths, as well as changes to vehicular traffic patterns along Charlottetowne Avenue and Kings Drive.

§ To Tracey Questell of Counseling Services from a student:
“I would like to thank you for everything that you have done…. I am sending you this email to let you know that once again it is because of your excellent counseling skills and your desire to see us excel as students that I am about to do a complete turnaround and continue [with] college…. § Several years ago Gilda Rubio-Festa, director of International Community and Outreach, along with co-director Rebecca Fernandez conceived the idea of creating an online ESL teacher training course offered through CPCC to meet the rapidly growing need for well-prepared English-as-a-second language instructors serving in community and faith-based organizations, state and local programs, and community colleges.
After gaining financial support from the New Horizons Fund and partnering with CPCC’s E-Learning group, a team consisting of Adam Brooks, Dixon Yard, Rebecca Fernandez, and Gilda Rubio-Festa got the ambitious project started in October 2007. Nine months later, and following the enlistment of some of the most respected educators in the field of ESL from around the country as consulting developers, the Moodle-based, online course has not only been created but also been thoroughly piloted with the help of volunteer educators from over a dozen states including N.C.
The course should be ready for national dissemination in December. You are invited to check out the live website portal used for the pilot, eslfasttrack.net, which will be used to link teachers in training from around the country to the new CPCC Moodle course ESL Fast Track.
§ To Academic ESL instructors Lara Beninca, Adria Agovino, Sophie David-Gunn, Marian DeLuca, Wendy Pegram-Mills and Karen Stanley, and Basic Skills ESL instructor Karen Youngman from a visiting future ESL instructor:
“I would like to express my gratitude for your kindness and willingness to help me gain more experience as a teacher by allowing me to observe your classes. I appreciate your guidance and advice. I had fruitful conversations with you, and I had interesting observations of your classes. I would like to thank especially Mrs. Karen Stanley for helping me and facilitating the process of observing ESL/EFL classes.
“Your teaching methods while conducting the EFL/ESL lessons differ from the Polish way. I liked your positive attitude and constant helpfulness. I benefited from this experience, and I wish to develop myself as a teacher in my future.”
